How to Clear Your Cache and Cookies
A quick guide to keeping your browser running smoothly. Sometimes websites can act a little "glitchy"—maybe a page isn't loading correctly, or a button won't click. Most of the time, this is just your browser holding onto old information. Clearing your cache (saved images and files) and cookies (saved site settings) is like giving your browser a fresh start.
Here is how to do it on the most popular browsers.
Google Chrome
-
At the top right of your browser, click the three dots (⋮).
-
Hover over Clear Browsing Data (or click Settings > Privacy and security > Delete browsing data).
-
At the top, choose a time range. To clear everything, select All time.
-
Check the boxes for Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
-
Click Delete data.
Safari (Mac)
-
Click Safari in the top menu bar and select Settings (or Preferences).
-
Go to the Privacy tab.
-
Click Manage Website Data...
-
To remove everything, click Remove All, then click Remove Now to confirm.
-
Tip: To clear your history as well, go to the top menu and select History > Clear History.
Microsoft Edge
-
Click the three dots (...) in the top right corner.
-
Select Settings, then click Privacy, search, and services on the left sidebar.
-
Scroll down to Clear browsing data and click Choose what to clear.
-
Set the time range to All time.
-
Check Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files.
-
Click Clear now.
Mozilla Firefox
-
Click the three horizontal lines (≡) in the top right corner and select Settings.
-
Click Privacy & Security on the left.
-
Scroll down to Cookies and Site Data and click Clear Data...
-
Make sure both Cookies and Site Data and Cached Web Content are checked.
-
Click Clear.
